A four, six, or eight week advanced pharmacy practice elective is available at Hillside. Pharmacy students are incorporated into the patient care activities of the clinic, mobile clinics, home health visits and community education. Students also work in the clinic pharmacy, making drug therapy recommendations, suggesting therapeutic substitutions based on inventory availability, developing medication-related policies, inventory management, educating patients on appropriate use of medications, and dispensing medications to patients.
This is an interdisciplinary primary care experience, with pharmacy students working alongside medical, nursing, physician assistant and other students also completing an elective rotation at the clinic. The rich multi-cultural patient population will expand students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes in working with diverse health beliefs and practices.
Hillside Medical and Pharmacy Directors collaborate with visiting faculty members from partnering pharmacy schools to provide a rich collaborative experience for students, where they can thrive and grow in their clinical knowledge and confidence.
