Using the Community-Based Rehabilitation model, Hillside’s rehab services focus on therapeutic intervention and outreach in communities and schools.
Primary Medical Care & Out Patient Mobile Clinics
In a district where 79% of the people live in poverty and close to 80% live in rural villages, Hillside’s primary health care services make a significant contribution to the provision of care. In addition to the outpatient clinic in Eldridgeville, Hillside sends mobile clinics to 16 villages throughout the district.
Hillside has operated a year-round clinic in the Toledo District of southern Belize since 2000 but we know that we don’t have all the answers to improving access to health care services for the people who live there. That’s why we collaborate with community leaders and organizations, Belizean government ministries, local service organizations, and NGOs to develop and deliver services that improve access to health care, prevent and treat diseases, and improve quality of life.
"We bring expertise that supports and complements existing services and addresses needs not yet met. Hillside’s resources are vitally important."
In addition to direct patient care and community outreach, Hillside’s interdisciplinary education of international and US medical, pharmacy, nurse practitioner, physical therapy, and physician assistant students has been a crucial component of our mission from the beginning. During educational rotations, students learn about health care in a developing country with restricted resources and return home with new skills, experiences, and friends.
Home Health Care
Hillside provides the only home health care service in the Toledo district for home-bound patients who need medical, nursing, rehabilitation, and/or hospice services.
Hillside offers a variety of Public Health education programs to children and adults throughout the Toledo District of southern Belize.
