abby's House
As Hillside marches on through the second half of our first decade providing quality health care for the poor, we look forward to expanding our services and programs to include physical therapy, dental care and public health research. In order to accommodate these new initiatives and provide improved living conditions for our volunteers, a campaign was launched for a new dormitory to be named "Abby's House", in memory of Abigail Drake Brinkman, a fourth year medical student from Indiana University School of Medicine who died in a tragic diving accident on a week-end excursion in October, 2005, while serving a rotation in tropical medicine at the Hillside Clinic. Riley Hospital for Children awarded her an honorary pediatric residency as it was her lifelong dream to become a pediatrician and to devote a part of each year to mission work in under served areas of the world. Support for the construction of Abby's House is a result of the desire of her family and friends to improve the lives of the rural people she so loved by providing housing for additional medical workers.
Because of the amazing efforts of the Brinkman family, the Rotary Club of Columbus, IN, and many other people, enough funds have been raised to begin construction in March of 2008. We hope to open the doors sometime in the summer of 2008 and have an official dedication in the Fall. We hope you can join us for this celebration.
