Student Application Guidelines

For students interested in a rotation in 2011:

There are limited spaces available for the 12 monthly rotations in 2011.  Interested applications should use the   2011 Student Application

For students interested in a rotation in 2012 or 2013:

To better accommodate student interest Hillside will have 13 four-week rotations starting in 2012.  See the complete rotation calendar for details.  Interested applications should use the   2012 Student Application or 2013 Student Application and check for availability in Hillside Student Rotation Schedule

  • Final year medical students, medical residents from primary care specialties and physician assistant (PA) students are eligible for the medical education program. Additionally variable length service learning programs for nursing students, physical/occupational therapy students, dental students and public health students are also available. Please contact hillside.administration@gmail.com for the availability of experiences for nursing, dental, therapy and public health students.
  • Each elective period is a four week commitment with the exception of the last period of the year which is for three weeks.  For 2011 electives, periods will run approximately from the beginning to the end of each calendar month.  For 2012 going forward, each rotation immediately follows the previous one.  Check the calendar for specifics.
  • Participants are accepted from all countries; however, fluency in written and spoken English, the official language of Belize, is necessary. Participants from countries other than the US must be at educational levels equivalent to those noted to be eligible above.
  • All qualified applicants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. A maximum of eight applicants per month will be accepted, for the medical/PA program. The number of slots available for nursing, therapy and public health will vary.
All participants must be in good standing with their school or residency program and will be required to demonstrate this through a letter of good standing, written by a faculty member of their school or by their residency program director. This letter is to accompany their application.
  • Participants are required to complete the application process according to the provided guidelines in order to be considered for placement in the elective.
  • A course fee will be required of all accepted participants for experiences of one month or less. Longer periods will be pro-rated. See the student application for current fee and the Support Hillside Page for payment instructions.
