NURSING EDUCATION EVALUATION

 

All students must choose and sign up for 3 of the 4 evaluation assignments listed below

 

A.                Cultural Sensitivity Exercise – 100 points

Complete exercise on page 45 of HoSang’s chapter, “Community Health Nursing in a Multicultural Society” and reply to all 5 points.  This is a self-reflection and will be graded not on personal content but rather on the process.  This should be typed and approximately 5-6 pages. 

 

B.                Cultural Assessment – 100 points

After doing your assigned readings on the importance of performing in a cultural assessment, choose a cultural assessment tool (i.e. from Allender and HoSang) or elements from several and do a thorough cultural assessment on a Belizean resident you meet on our trip.  This assignment should be typed and approximately 5-6 pages.  Please include pertinent photographs.  Due 2 weeks after the trip.

 

C.                Belize Paper – 100 points

After returning from our trip, we write a short paper (approximately 5-6 pages) about Belize.  Include such things as:

1)   Geography                 4)        Immigration             7)         Religion

2)  History                       5)        Health                                    8)        Economy

3)  Government              6)        People                                    9)        Transportation

Resources can include information/resources gained while in Belize, Internet searches and library searches.

 

Be sure to include pictures from your trip to compliment the various categories.  Due 2 weeks after the trip.

 

*All students must do Journal Assignment*

 

D.                Journal – 100 points

A journal of your experience should answer such questions as, but not limited to:

      1.         What did I expect to see?

      2.         What did I see?

      3.         What did I hear?

      4.         What did I feel?

      5.         How did I respond emotionally and physically to the culture?

Entries should be made on a daily basis and dated beginning January 14, 2006 and ending January 22, 2006.  Journal should be handwritten, but only on one side of the page and should be neat/legible. 

 

Please complete the following and give to your instructor on the departure day.

*A maximum of 10 bonus points can be achieved for reviewing a newspaper or news magazine (i.e. Time, Newsweek or US News and World Report) article that pertains to Hispanic culture.  Staple a copy of the article to your typed one page summary and reaction.
